The study deals with manufacturing curved holes which are difficult to create. Since the manufacturing method is not established, curved holes are generally formed by drilling operations and cannot help but be formed by the combination of straight holes, which often leads to interference with smooth streams of liquid. To solve this problem, a quite simple mechanism to create curved holes was devised, which consists of a helical compression spring, wires, pulleys, an electrode for electrical discharge machining and so on, and is installed on an electrical discharge machine. The mechanism allows the electrode to move along a curved line in the same manner as the conventional die sinking electrical discharge machining. From experimental results, it is found that the mechanism has the potential to manufacture curved holes.
